Late Wake Up Call

The new season of One Tree Hill kicked off a little over three weeks ago and in this season, they brought back the opening billboard which they removed a few years ago. Every episode they have various artists to sing “I Don’t Want To Be” in different versions. So far, I am impressed with the different renditions of the song though some are a bit awkward. Hearing “I Don’t Want To Be” again before each episode and seeing Nathan and Haley’s evolution from season one to seven gave me chills. It was nostalgic. It suddenly became a time machine that brought me back to 2007 – the year I first started watching the show. I remember it was Christmas vacation and I am in my third year in college. My sister and I would stay up late each night to watch seasons one to four which my sister just bought from Quiapo. We finished it all just right before the classes resumed.

2007.

It was a memorable year. Many things had happen. Some are bad and some are good. Some were memorable and some just not worth remembering. These were the list I remembered from that year:

  • · My friends had an advance surprise present for my eighteenth birthday. They gave it to me a month before my real birthday. I thank them for their effort but the way they did it wasn’t that nice. I can still remember how embarrassing and awful it was to be watched by many people. It was really uncomfortable. I love my friends for bothering and wasting their time preparing for it but that event still haunts me until now.
  • · Had my first haircut after highs school. It felt good to cut off my high school hair.
  • · First time I felt vulnerable.
  • · Had my debut party and that time, it was for real.
  • · My first boat ride.
  • · First time to go to Boracay. I LOVE THAT WEEK.
  • · First time to wear contact lenses and got rid of my glasses though I still wear them at home.
  • · First time I started to wear my hair down.
  • · First time I appreciated my curly hair.
  • · First live UST game that I watched that the team won. It was so sweet because it was against ADMU.
  • · Had my first pair of chucks.
  • · First time I wore a skirt.
  • · First time I learned how to put on make-up. It was also the first time I actually mind how I look.
  • · Had my first expensive phone (which I lost the year after)

I guess my life became exciting when I turned eighteen. I learned, experienced and did a lot of things that defines who I am now. I started dreaming that year and had the guts to fulfill it. Some came true and some were put to waste. There are some days that I am not sure what I want to do with my life. Sometimes I want to be a photographer, sometimes a writer, sometimes a business woman. Now, I am a teacher and I am loving it. Life really surprise you in the least expected way. I may not be certain for now but I still have my whole life to figure it out, to dream, and to fulfill it. It doesn't matter if started late. What matters is I started. It is just up to me how I will end it.
